National History
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was established on November 12, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana, by seven pioneering educators: Mary Lou Allison Gardner Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian Irene White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Annette Dulin Redford, Bessie Mae Downey Rhoades Martin, and Cubena McClure. Achieving national collegiate sorority status on December 30, 1929, with the charter granted to the Alpha chapter at Butler University, Sigma Gamma Rho has since maintained a distinguished reputation for promoting positive change and community uplift through sisterhood, leadership, and service.

Mu Upsilon History
The Mu Upsilon Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated was established on April 3, 1992, on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin by 7 charter members: Monica Lashone Brown, Sheshe Kikwanzi Giddens, Janell Renee Sexton, Latonia Renee Davis, Andrea Lashawn Johnson, Angela Petrice Spears, and Maranda Matrail Thomas.
The ladies of Mu Upsilon continue to uphold the standard of what it means to be a Sigma Woman on UT's campus, and work to promote the sorority's principles of sisterhood, scholarship, and service!
